Life Simplification

Do you feel that your life lacks meaning?  Are you too busy to spend time with the people you really care about?  Are you too busy to enjoy your life?  Do you feel that your dreams have been put on hold because you are inundated with the mundane chores in life?  If you answered “yes” to any of those questions then you could benefit from learning how to simplify your life.

Learning to simplify your life is not a new concept.  In fact, the concept has been around for thousands of years.  In today’s world of multitasking, working numerous jobs at once, trying to raise a family while working at the same time, and living in a highly pressurized and materialistic society, life simplification can be the perfect prescription.

What does Life Simplification Entail?

Life simplification is different for each individual.  Sometimes it means learning to prioritize the important things in one’s life or learning how to manage one’s time more effectively.  For others it could mean learning to control spending, eliminating debt, or getting rid of excess material possessions.

When it comes down to the core, life simplification means learning to create a balance between the material and immaterial aspects of life and focusing on inner growth as well as outer growth.  Life simplification is an attempt to get people to live more purposefully and with more intent.

Group Counseling & Individual Counseling for Life Simplification

I offer group and individual counseling for people who are interested in learning how to simplify their lives.  Some of the topics that I cover are listed below.

  1. Material Simplicity- this entails learning how to limit heavy reliance on material goods in order to learn how to live more for the non-material aspects of life.  I also teach people how to become more responsible with their money as well as teaching them how to save for the things they want rather than incurring debt.
  2. Ecological Enlightenment- I get people to realize that the Earth’s resources are limited and that humans are interdependent upon the resources.  Compassion towards other people and our future generations is emphasized.
  3. Social Reasons for Simplicity- I emphasize that humans have more similarities than differences.  I teach people how to eliminate the invisible barriers put up by social class and many other differences that some people are focused on.
  4. Simplicity & Personality- the realization that personality development does not have to be dependent on material possessions and that personality develops experientially through the sufferings and hardships that we endure.
  5. Simplicity & Personal Growth- this promotes spiritual and/or psychological growth by learning to free oneself of superfluous obligations.
